What Color Combinations to Use on Your Website

Website color themes are important for both branding and aesthetics of a website. Research has shown that the look of your website affects the behavior of the visitor including whether or not they will trust your business and purchase anything. Getting potential customers to your website is only half the battle.

Color Wheel mono

Monochromatic

This is the easiest scheme. Chose one color and make a few variations in its saturation and brightness. Monochromatic colors work especially well in tables or buttons.

Color Wheel Compliment

Complementary

Colors that are opposites on the color wheel are complementary. Such colors tend to play off each other. Use one as a back ground, and the other as an accent color for important buttons or directional purposes.

Color Wheel Analog

Analogous (Adjacent)

Choose three adjacent colors on the wheel. Adjust with different values of brightness. Analogous schemes are found often in nature (shades of blue found in the sea for example) and effectively create mood.

Triad (Equidistant)

Choose three colors that are equidistant from each other on the color wheel. Black and white can be added for different shades.
